30 day exchange plan

Hi, Bought car 3 weeks ago, done 300 miles in it, not happy with it, asked Toyota dealer about the 30 day no quibble exchange plan, he told me the car has to have a fault that they have 2 attempts to fix before a exchange can be offered, cannot find any set of terms and condition, I was under the impression if you did not like the car you could exchange it once, is the dealer telling me the truth, anyone know where I could download t & c,s. Thanks.

Yes it is approved vechicle, I called in to dealer today and told him I was unhappy with the drive , especially the booming drone from the exhaust, he said they know about the problem with the exhaust on my model 2013 1.6 Auris auto, it was a design flaw he said, nowt you can do, when I mentioned the exchange plan he said he car has to have a fault and 2 attempts at fixing it, if that were the case this no quibble 30 day exchange is worthless.

The terms and conditions don't say anything about the scheme being 'no quibble' - it mentions having a 'reasonable cause not to be satisfied with your car'.

Suppose it depends how 'reasonable cause' is defined. Perhaps speaking to Toyota Customer Care may be an option ....

Poor showing from your dealer, whilst you can't just exchange the car because you no longer like it, there is a bulletin from Toyota in regards to Exhaust noise on the 1.6 petrol engine. it is not regarded as a fault both the Excel & Sport Trim where built on the same basic model type and both use the same exhaust design which is a bit on the sporty side in terms of noise. Some people didn't like this so Toyota issued a bulletin only to be applied if a customer was unhappy:

EG-0005T-0114

DESCRIPTION OF PHENOMENON

Some customers may experience and report abnormal noise from pipe assy, exhaust, tail during driving.

PRODUCTION CHANGE

The production process of the pipe assy, exhaust, tail has been altered.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

Replace the pipe assy, exhaust, tail according to the repair manual.

Toyota introduced this from Sept/Oct 2013 production so if your car was built before these dates then perhaps the replacement exhaust may help.

Thanks Frosty, that thing... what is classed as reasonable cause, what he told me at dealership was more cut and dried, a fault that they cannot fix after 2 attempts, you would think something as clear as that would be in some terms and conditions, which I cannot find, I have sent a email through Toyota portal to customer services, will post what they say when they answer.

since you have had the car 3 weeks i would make sure the manager of the dealership & their head office is aware of your concerns and make them aware you want to return the car under the 30 gt  just in case your reply comes back from toyota after the 30 day timescale has elapsed

Just a update... Got no reply yet from Toyota U.K. From my email asking for clarity on this 30 exchange plan, also went back to johnsons dealership and spoke to the centre principle, he again tells me car must have a fault they cannot repair in 2 attempts, I asked to see terms for this plan, there are none, the phrase .. resonable cause... is open to any interpretation (in their favour), I said the fault thing that can't be fixed would be standard practise so what on earth good is this so called exchange plan, in my eyes a real con. Very disappointed with my dealer, spent a lot of money there and recommended customers to them, no more.

Car dealers seem to be smiling assasins, seem really nice till you want something that does not involve giving them more money, will stay away from them as long as possible.

will now concentrate on trying to find a quieter exhaust, Might have to go to one of these fabricaters, they claim to make it as quiet or loud as you like, think there may be one in bolton, thats about 25 mile from southport so not to bad.

Have you looked at Devon Aygo's post above re the exhaust?

Yes I have, asked about it at the same dealership, they just looked blank, Ihave asked a local tyre and exhaust co to check it out for me, they are going to try, don't want to go to the expense of buying wrong one and ending up with another original, I suppose they are going to look very similar as they will have to follow the same route, hope I can find one as the car will become a more pleasant beast

update... I shown the dealership the bulletin pointed out above by Devon Ago, surprisingly they have agreed to change the exhaust on Thursday, It can't be any worse, if it's better I will be off to put on 4 new tyres (Goodyear), that should make the car as quiet as poss, will post on Thursday with result, thanks to all posters for there help and input. Mike.

Sadly my first toyota was bought from a dealer that was dishonest, had better luck with a back street garage for the next car. So 3rd time lucky and went to a different dealer who, didn't lie about the vehicle and has a better reputation.

No, my tyres are 225  45 17s, I put dunlops on my first auris which was a 59 plate, I was dissapointed with them as they were noisier than the old mixed ones, strange noise.. bit like a fan going all the time, had a look at reviews and for quiet the goodyears come out well,  yokahamas come out as the quietest, I will be replacing old continentals which are noisy.

Blackcircles have the Dunlops for £50.03 fitted.

Goodyear manufacture tyres under the Dunlop brand for the European market, and the equivalent Goodyear EfficientGrip have exactly the same tyre ratings and are probably the same tyre (aside from the name on the sidewall). Also the same price at Blackcircles.

It wouldn't be shared knowledge as Dunlop exists in Europe only as one of Goodyear's brand names.

So why wouldn't Goodyear Europe & Dunlop Europe ( a subsidiary brand) share knowledge between design teams?

In Europe, Goodyear Dunlop is one company which reports directly to Goodyear in the US.

Specialist tyre production (motorsport and vintage tyres) under the Dunlop brand (at a small part of the former Fort Dunlop site here in Birmingham) ceased in 2014, due to the site being sold to JLR. Goodyear Dunlop closed their remaining UK plant in Wolverhampton in 2015. Goodyear Dunlop moved production from both of these sites to sister plants.

The main part of the former Fort Dunlop is now a hotel, offices and retail park.

All that exists of Dunlop Tyres in Europe is the brand name.

update... Have had the new exhaust fitted this morning, sounds much better, got rid of the annoying drone every time I touched accelerator, mechanic told me to run it for couple of weeks to make sure it doesn't start doing it again when it soots up a bit, fingers crossed, Now will turn my attention to finding Quiet tyres, I had settled on Goodyear efficientgrip but then read a conflicting review saying they were noisy. Can anyone recommend a quiet tyre 225 45 17.

tbh my experience (of 18s) is that 225/45 & cabin quietness don't mix  (at least as far as Bridgestone Potenza, Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance & Continental SportContact 5s in XL rating) despite the driveby noise ratings being amongst the lowest ...

HonestJohn seems to think highly of Michelin CrossClimate for comfort & noise & I believe that they are available in your necessary ratings.

Hey Mike @rushy45,

I would be very grateful if you can point me in the direction of the mechanic who changed your exhaust as I have the same issue with my 63 reg auris.

Thanks!
