Proace voltage / power issue

Hi, I bought my Proace new last year. For the money, generally it is okay. But I have had one major issue which is causing me real problems.

The alternator is a smart charge, I am not technical but I understand it only kicks out 14-15 volts when it thinks it needs to. It seems to maintain the main Battery at around 12.2 volts which seems low.

My real problem is I have a 12v Waeco freezer, it runs of leisure batteries. The leisure batteries are not being charged properly and are running flat. The Proace does not seem to recognise when they are running low on voltage. I have taken the van back to Toyota on a couple of occasions, they say there is nothing wrong. Two different auto electricians say the problem is the alternator voltage output not being high enough and often enough.

Anyone come across this before please?
