Aygo xcite accelerator pedal

I've noticed that when driving and The pedal is to the floor , if I press slightly harder the pedal goes slightly further down and wow the car moves 

 

i think ive been driving it incorrect for the last year , was even thinking of trading it in for some thing with more power , not needed now , it keeps up on motorways no problem now

There does seem to be a noticeable transition when pressing the accelerator pedal - almost two stages.

Isn't that just the vvti kicking in?

Neither my Corolla or my two Auris had the same action - all of which were VVTi.
