this might be stupid, but her goes, one ofmy employees had the problem on her citroen ax, i checked the oil level and it was way over. under pressure, the oil was finding anywhere to go. drained and refilled to correct amount, had to clean !Removed! eveything, throttlebody, spark plugs, air filter. then ran it at 4000rpm for 2 mins to clear all the black kak from the combustion. works fine now (well as good as can be for a 94 AX)

Oilk all over the plugs isn't good. I suppose it could be what carlosfandango said, let's hope so as the other alternatives aren't very good! I am thinking piston rings or something similar :crybaby:

try taking out the offending spark plug - disconnect the coil lead and crank the engine for a good while , this will blow all the crap out ( for now ). i'd personally replace the plugs ,once they get dirty to me they just aint the same,a misfire will lead to an oil ,petrol soaked appearance on the plug end , replace the plugs and see what happens ( may well be the lead not the plug ) , if it returns and it is oil ,for sure its the rings, then seek furthur help from a mechanic.

Oh oh........... sounds expensive!

could be a blown head gasket/cracked head/ broken piston/ piston or oil control rings. have you checked your oil and water for contamination?

With the sudden spluttering/juddering it sounds as though you have blown the head gasket..

best take it to a garage for a compression test and further investigation....sorry matey.
