When I drive on very bumpy roads, like cobbled roads, I hear a scraping sound when I apply the brakes gently. First time I heard it, I thought it was the from the windows shutters (shop keeper was closing them). I can reproduce the it every time I go over the cobbled it of the road.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Think you had the used front discs with the used pads when you did your brake work a few weeks ago, and that you crossed over the pads from wheel to wheel ( not advisable) .

Things still the same  ?

So when did this new noise  arise , just recently or since you last works.

Given an inspection revals no debris, loose or catching parts, then my first thought would be the pads and disc are making that noise as they gently come togther and hit high spots on each other, ie they have not yet bedded in fully .

Might be worth looking at the actual contact surface of  the pads, does the wear seem even over the full surface or does there seem to be areas where the wear looks different, like in this exagerated  pic

I think it did it before as well, first time I heard it was when this guys was closing the shutters and the cobbled bit is out side the shop and I thought it was the shutters. I then heard it again after my brake job, but this time there wasnt anyone closing the shutters so I drove round and applied the brakes gently and it did it again. Its not squeel, more like rattling and metal scraping, little bit louder than before.

The pads are wearing even on full surface, these are Toyota pads, no issue with braking, at all speeds. I alway has this faint squeel when I brake slowly, I am guessing its metal bits on the pads.

Only other thing I did was (new caliper and slide pins) replaced the metal clips that pads slide on as old ones were little rusty and had lot of gunk on them.

If it was there before your work on the brakes, perhaps its not them ??

Could it be the rear brakes, noise location in a car can often be misleading.

It might be nothing to do with the brakes, but something else more to do with the deceleration of the car / engine / tyres ?

Try making a recording of the noise, someone might recognise the it ??

I have the same sound, squeaking and squealing under light braking, quietens and goes under heavier braking. Mine is definitely front brakes though, I thought it might have been the slider pins, but havent had a chance to grease them yet.
