Worldwide presumably.

Toyota is twice the nearest rival ... we're obviously paying too much for these cars

I wonder where VW would have been without dieselgate?

As regards profit margins, VAG has been bolstered by the performance of their luxury marques, with an average profit margin of around 5% (VW being less than 3%).

Toyota has a profit margin of around 7%.

Comes of chasing volume (VW) rather than profit (Toyota).

Headline from a recent Der Spiegel article on Volkswagen in October -  Volkswagen is struggling. The diesel emissions scandal, slim profit margins and a leadership shake-up have challenged the automobile company.
