i have gone from a 2l d4d 85bhp to 1.4 petrol engine it has 62,000 miles on it and has been using about 1.5 litres of oil per 500 miles my diesel had 153,000 miles of which 130,000 miles i did never  had to put oil in,apart from an oil change every 5,000 miles. the petrol engine seems to running sweet but using the oil, what could it be and how often should i do an oil change ? i will be doing around 20,000 miles a year.

thanks

Meant to say its a 2005.

Follow the Toyota recommended re the oil changes. I personally haven't put a drop of oil in mine (havent had to) between each 10k service, but then the E12 Corolla's are a bit weird in that some - especially T-Sport owners - have to top up frequently whilst others like me never have to touch it. I wouldnt be too concerned unless you can see any leaks anywhere.

For the mileage you are doing ,thats about 40ltrs of oil a year, or almost 1 ltr per week, which is about the same as Max down to Min on the dipstick.

Will it pass the yearly Car Test emissions ?

It could be worn valve guide seals, not too expensive to put right;  but equally it could be the old  bore/pistons/rings problem, believe up to 2005 models could be affected from the Toyota manufacturing defect; that needs a replacement engine to cure. ( too late for any help from toyota)

Perhaps a compression test etc by a garage will confirm the cause.
