Key Fob locking car but won't unlock it with Fob or key

Hi all,

My 2006 Avensis 2.0D-4D saloon has a strange issue regarding the central locking & key fob.

The issue is that I have to press the unlock button about 20 times before the car unlocks. It wouldn't be so bad if I could just turn it in the lock but this won't work either. There is no issue locking the car or unlocking the boot with the key and the key lights up when I press the unlock button so not sure what's wrong.

Also noticed that this happens more when the car has been lying over night or all day at work. If I get it unlocked I can lock and unlock it no problem, it's only when I leave it locked for half the day.

Anyone hear of this problem or know a fix as I'm afraid of being locked out some of these cold winter mornings!

Thanks in advance.

I would guess a solenoid/actuator.

Hi. You could check that where you are parking the car is not a place that is apt to be swamped by a high concentration of radio signals from wi-fi or other sources. Both myself and my other half have had this issue - mine (in my Avensis saloon) in a Sainsbury's car park that only cleared when someone in a van drove off and my other  (in our Prius) when visiting a friend who explained why it happened on their driveway. No locking or unlocking function can occur as the transponder is not allowing access to the vehicle, especially if you have the two layer security system. You cannot unlock the doors with the key physically on mine when this happens.

Hope this gives you a place to start thinking of other options/reasons why.

Happy New Year.
