What's going on?

Evening folks,

2006 2.2 D-CAT T180

Had persistent white smoke problem. Got it Terracleaned last week but it didn't clear the problem, white smoke still a nuisance but car was perkier. Next jobs on the list, 5th injector... then sensor...

Past couple of days - no smoke but now there's fuel leakage from at least one of the injectors. What's going on?!

White smoke is not HG failure and the DPF is clear. ECU updated and EGR clean.

Any ideas why the smoke problem has suddenly stopped?

Although can't believe I'm now forced to get the other injectors cleaned/replaced. This car is having a laugh - and bleeding me dry 😬

remind me how many miles on it? Injectors on common rail diesels don't last forever due to the very high pressures etc. - they wear a lot faster than older diesels.

Hi Scott, that might explain it. It's done 145K. White smoke was back again today though. I'm wondering whether the leaky injector was caused by the Terraclean last week. Anyway I'll be getting all 5 injectors looked at shortly. Can they be cleaned up or reconditioned?

I don't know. On the T180 they are a piezo injector iirc & I think that I remember Devon Aygo mentioning that there was also a revision (needed an ECU update with that?). Possibly worth checking with him although as a Toyota dealer employee he will always probably recommend official parts.

I imagine that even with reconditioned parts it's not going to be cheap & do you want to put that money into a 9 year old car with 145k miles?

Try doing a diesel purge it's a cheaper option.at least you have tried that if it works your in pocket.

Thanks mate, although I've sunk in so much up to now I feel obliged to see it through to the bitter end. Depends on how much the quote is I guess. Thanks for some much needed perspective.

Thanks mate, will bear that in mind. I'll wait for a quote on the injectors and take it from there.
