TRC / VSC lights not working?

Hi all,

Ignorant newbie here! I've just bought a 2007 5 door Avensis T-Spirit, 2.0l petrol, 113000 miles on the clock.

It has a TRC Off button, but when I press it, no corresponding TRC light pops up on the display.

When I start the ignition and the various warnings light up for a couple of seconds, TRC and VSC do not appear.

Does anyone know if they should come up? If they should come on and don't, will my TRC and VSC be working? Garage (not Mr T) has run the computer diagnostics and reckons there are no issues bar a crankshaft position sensor, but it seems odd that there should be a TRC Off button and no corresponding light.

Here's a vid showing the lights that pop up when I start the engine.

Any ideas? Thanks.

the picture of the car with 2 squiggles under it (just to the left of the brake system warning) is traction/VSC. Your manual should tell you (it's a few years since I have had a T25 so can't remember the exact details).

Thanks @Heidfirst - guess it's good then :-) I got confused by the manual, which seemed to suggest that there were additional warnings with just the letters TRC and VSC as in this video:

the car with squiggles light should illuminate when it's actually working on the road. I see what you mean about the separate warnings for when you have them switched off - sorry but it's too long since I had my T25 for clear recall - Konrad may be able to help.

I happen to be looking at your post this very minute. There is another video on YouTube that explains in a language not known to me. From what i can make out, he is doing the paper clip/wire in the OBD socket trick to show the fault codes. Also he describes how to clear them.

Your car is the 2 litre petrol, which is a little easier than the diesels. Check that all your brake lights are working. That usually throws up this fault.

If the brake lights are all working then you may have a sensor fault. What you then need is a proper diagnostics done to determine what is the fault.

How many people check their brake lights? I do because I see the reflection on my windows when parked on my drive.
