Check VSC System/Check Parking Brake System

Hi everyone,

I have a Toyota Avensis Tourer 2.0D 4D TR NAV 5th Registration Date 01/07/10 number plate 11.  In March I had my car serviced and a warning sign had appeared (see pics below) saying "Check VSC System" and "Check Parking Brake System".  The sign flashes intermittently and when this appears the car seems a little sluggish then runs normally.  It may be there for a few days then disappears for weeks.  My mechanic told me that I needed a new EGR valve and this will be a few hundred pounds.

I am a female who knows very little about cars and has to depend one what I'm told by a mechanic so I looked on a few forums and read articles through Google and saw that back in 2009/10 Avensis cars registered in 2007  were recalled due to this problem - mine is a 2011 model. I also saw articles about having the EGR valve cleaned, so I got a second opinion (which was the same diagnosis as the first) and had the valve cleaned initially just in case this did solve the problem.  It didn't so I went ahead and paid to have the valve replaced which cost a few hundred pounds.

Unfortunately I am still left with the warning signs coming on and told that I may have to take it to a Toyota Dealer but I cannot afford to do this because of the prices they charge.  Having received the same opinion off 2 mechanics what the problem is and then paying out out a few hundred pounds but still left with the issue, I am at a loss and wondered if anyone else out there has experienced this problem and maybe offer some guidance before I have to spend anymore cash unnecessarily.

Thanks and hopeful in advance ....
