Avensis Verso Losing Power

The engine management light came on a few times but no loss of power.

Now,at times I start to lose power but the light does not come on anymore.Left it into garage where they said it was a fuel pump problem but really could be anything to do with the fuel system.Car is 12 years old 111000 miles and was going perfect up until this. Can still drive about in it but have no confidence in it.Garage man recommending changing fuel filter  as the cheapest option before big money on fuel pump or injectors.Reading a few posts on this somewhere people were saying 99% of the time it is 2 valves going into fuel pump that is the problem normally. This type of problem happen to anyone else.Do not want to get rid of this car as we both have grown old together.

What was the fault code stored when the EML came on ? if it was 78/2 78/8 or P0627 then the SCV valves are the most likely cause ( the two valves you mention ) available as a repair kit from Toyota part # 04221-27012.
