Hi

First sorry for my poor english,i am writing from Croatia.

I bought Avensis d4d 93kw 2007 6speed.From the first day i am having problem with gearbox.

I can hear whine when i push the clutch, but only when it is in the first gear. When i take it out from the gear the whine stops(and it is a little hard to get it out from the speed).

I had changed the clutch kit with flywheel and the gearbox(used one with "only" 70000miles) and the problem is stil here. The oil is straight 75w(Fuchs sintofluid).

The other gears work perfect - very smooth and soft. The problem is only with the first and only till the car doesent come to working temperature.

I have got the fealing that when i push the clutch that it doesent separate the plate from the flywheel and that it is all still spining.

Any ideas??

Thank You

Hello Niko. I wonder did you change the release bearing? That would cause issues similar to those you described.

I have the 6 speed gearbox with a 1.33 petrol engine in the iQ and it's a pain to engage 1st and 2nd when the car is cold.

It doesn't grind gears or anything but just find it hard to push the gear lever into gear. After a few miles and once the car is up to temperature it's perfect again and no more problems until the next cold start. My dealer looked at the issue when I first purchased the car and adjusted the cables which did help but didn't fully cure it.

Craig.

The release bearing is new and the cables were adjusted when everithing was changed(only thing that it is a little strange it is when i put it in first gear and engaging the gear stick moves for two-three mm to the right).

Further to craggle"s post, I've seen mentioned on this forum that non Toyota oil in the trans can cause strange results like grinding, noise etc. That may be worth tracking note of. The great stick movement is an odd one, the fact that it happens only in first and after you changed all those parts makes me wonder about the engine mounts, are they solid?

The oil that i used is closest to original since in the Toyota shop i got 75w-80 because they dont have original(instead they use Total 75w-80).Fuch sintofluid 75w gl4  is monograd as the original and gl4 as recomented.

Engine monts are solid - the stick only moves to the right when engaging and stays in that position - like it seats on the place when starting

Was there a new clutch fork in it?

Could the old  1 possibly be bent in any way? My old Peugeot 406 was making a whining noise I'd a new clutch kit put in and still happening. Put new gear links in the checked the fork and was a bit bent.stuck a new 1 in a was OK after that.

It should not be bend because the fork that came with the gearbox was mounted(only if i am so lucky that they were both bend). And i think that the whine wouldnt stop when the engine gets to working temp. But thank You for the idea.
