If it was the t sport I could understand as the gearboxs synchros die on the t sport , wonder if other Toyota gearbox do same ????? Mines in at mo for new synchros .....😥 I tried new gearbox oil but didn't make any difference , always worth a try pal as an easy job to-do....

Suggest you stick to a good quality oil of the viscosity recommended, using thicker or thinner oil more likely to give problems, partic with gear selection.

You will have to start somewhere and eliminate the obvious first, like the gear oil, which sounds like its needed anyway.

Checking the driveshaft,  hubs , brakes ,discs for noise/wear/damange would be next on my list.

ya have all that done so just gonna change the oil thanks

Funny enough my work van 14 plate transit (new shape) started the same thing Saturday. Took it to Ford today and it's the bearing in the gearbox. Covered under warranty but only just. Trouble is they want next week for about 3 days.

Sounds like yours could be the Same mate!

ya went to dealers today and they said it was the bearing. 600 fix it so not paying that ha

Same problem as me. In fact I'm waiting on the AA as we speak cos my van is stuck in 5th gear and I think the clutch bearing has come off/shattered.

I'm sure others out there will be cheaper.

My friend owns a garage in hyde manchester that specialises in Toyota's if your not to far away!

Look up "Gearbox and Transmission" specialist garages in your area, usually they  are a lot less, or take a chance on a scrappers gearbox.

Looking at your other recent posts, perhaps a complete engine / gearbox  swap might be  better option if you can find one at a decent price or simply a new car if you can find a worthwhile one at a low price ..

Low whine especially when the car slows down as you let go of the accelerator? My compressor gearbox makes a low whine also, I think they are like that, I haven't had any problems with it though.
