how to remove handbreak button?

does anyone know how to remove the handbreak button? somehow it like the spring inside snapped or someting and the button is gone into the handbreak cover

All the diagrams I have seen just refer to it as a handbrake lever assembly - no reference to any internal parts.

Seem plenty s/h on eBay around £20, so suggests it might be under £60 from Mr T new.
