I have a rough idle on my 2002 corolla vvti 1.6l, once warmed up it will idle around 600rpm and every 10 seconds or so it will drop to approx 500rpm feeling as if it is going to stall. Looking to remove the IAC valve and clean it but dont want to drain the coolant completly. Is there a way of temporary clamping off the 2 coolant lines?

Already cleaned the throttle body, MAF sensor and fitted new spark plugs with no change, any ideas?

Hi,

Note I have not undertaken this requirement specifically on the Corolla. My assumption is that you do not want to sacrifice expensive coolant.

After collecting coolant following removal of the lower radiator hose - a lengthways cut 25 litre plastic drum makes for a low slung container - raise the disassembled coolant pipes as high as possible with string. It would be shrewd to measure the diameter of a hose connecting spigot with a vernier, prior to removing it, and have two back-up pieces of appropriate size doweling in place to plug the two heater flow and return pipes if necessary.

Brake hose clamps would probably work as would molegrips, but they are more clumsy options and might leak.
