Passenger airbag Yaris 2001

I'm trying to discover if the TY 2001 passenger airbag is ineffective if a small child (new born) is passenger.

I've looked and despite different opinions I'm thinking it's;

1. Not possible to deactivate the passenger airbag.

2.  Also, the occupant classification system prevents the airbag from deploying if the passenger weighs too little.

Can someone clarify this for me please.

I'm located in the U.K.

Thank you,

dvtrv

The Occupant Classification Systems is a system of sensors that detects who's sitting in the passenger seat and is able to identify whether the passenger is an adult or a child. It eliminates the need for an on/off switch for airbags in most cases.

Ok great.

so. If I was to have a newborn on front seat in a car seat I'd be ok then?

is that correct?

As long as the child is in a front facing restraint and the seat is moved as far back as possible, yes. However, see the following - http://www.childcarseats.org.uk/carrying-other-peoples-children/child-seat-and-seat-belt-laws/
