Noise ?

Hi all new to group. I have purchased a 2012 aygo for my daughter.

Not being familiar with the 3 cylinder engine it just sounds very noisy.

Reminds me of an old aircooled Beatle when accelerating. Thought the exhaust was blowing so took it to exhaust centre but they said it was fine and its quite normal as they get quite a few in.

Just to put my mind at rest and not going to let my daughter out in a complete dog. Many thanks for any input.

Hello Darren - welcome to Toyota Owners Club.

Three cylinder engines are noisier than four cylinder units, having a characteristic thrum. I've driven both the Aygo and the Skoda Citigo (and now own a 2016 Aygo), and both produce a similar level of engine noise.

Not as noisy as a two cylinder as per the old Citroen 2CV6/Ami/Dyane or the 1980's Fiat 500.

Thankyou for your reply. The engine just seems very raspy when accelerating from standstill. It doesn't seem to be down on power in fact im very surprised how nippy they are. And sits lovely at motor way speeds.

I thought that it would be alot smoother being a toyota which are renowned for their engines. Hopefully its all good and just how they run. Thanks for your reply.
