Vvti auto shift solenoid a fault

Hi all, 1st post so please be gentle ;-)

story so far - better half needed an auto and a cheap avensis popped up. 100k full history, 2 owner last one 10 years and religiously serviced by main dealer. I'm aware of the oil issues thanks to this forum and this one didn't have the replacement engine but only looking at doing 5k a year didn't mind keeping an eye on the oil. 3 weeks in and topped up with 5w30 500ml, 20 miles later it threw an oil pressure light, on advice slightly over filled (not a bad thing) with 5w40, light went and no more probs. Couple of weeks later going round a roundabout it hesitated and threw a cel, cheap code reader read shift solenoid a, cleared it and did a trans fluid change and added some wynns conditioner, another couple of weeks same code again turning right and again a few weeks later turning right. Seeing a pattern, possible wiring as it seemed right turns caused it I was going to get under it over Xmas but last night it did going straight.

so do I sort it or get rid of? Reading up it's one of 3 solenoids anyone got any diagrams or suggestions on how to identify which one and where do I get them,I have seen adverts saying it's a known ecu problem £300 to sort, is that a possibility? Or a low mileage 2nd hand box, 250 plus fitting. I only gave 400 for the car so ditching it seems best.

thanks for looking.

cheers

Steve
