Outer wheel bearings stuck in hub assembly

Hello I wondered if anyone could help me 

I have taken my avensis 2004 today to the garage to change the front passenger side wheel bearings cause being noisy so he took the hub assembly out and put it under pressure he removed the first bearing but the outer bearing ring is stuck inside the hub and he tried with hammer to take it out but didn't work so he left it in some sort of solutiontill tomorrow's morning to try tale it out but I think he should use Oxyacetylene torch to heat up hub and take it out and I don't know if he has one otherwise he would have tried .does anyone have any clue what I should do ?!!!

If he fails you can easily buy a complete hub assembly from a breaker.

He should be able to do it without applying heat. Freezing the bearing race is also an option.  Outer races can be partially cut out to the point that they 'collapse' under pressure from a press.

Thanks for your reply it's very helpful I will go back to him today tell him .but I think made a mistake to take car to him he doesn't have enough tools

I have changed wheel bearings a few times myself, and normally it is the inner race that is stuck on the inner hub. When I last did my Avensis T22(similar bearing type), I first remove the circlip, then push the inner hub out first, then with the right size/diameter tool or fitting press the rest of the bearing from the outer hub. The ball bearings were use to keep the pressure on the outer race, when it was forced out. That was the trick. Or if you have an old bearing race, place that over the open ball bearings after removing the inner hub. I used this method.

New bearing in hub before pressing the inner hub. Remember to support the inner bearing race from the other side, so as not to push it out by accident!

A bit of understanding and pre-planning is needed. I had other problems when doing the bearing, but again I overcame them.

The above are for those willing to try it on their T22 and T25. For T27 the bearing is a hub unit similar to the rear, so no pressing is needed. I have done a Prius and there can be issues with that too!

So you need partially rebuild the old bearing and use the balls and inner race, to force the outer race from the hub.
