Yaris icon hybrid clunking/groaning noise

Hi all, happy new year,

Apologies in advance for the ridiculously long chunk of text to follow...a lot has happened in the first month of getting my car.

I've had my new toyota hybrid for a month now, but within the first 2 days it began making weird groaning noises on full lock in reverse, (usually when bay parking), on the right hand side of the car. The noise was very intermittent to start with. I took it back, and was told they couldn't find any problem and it's probably the cold, they said they had deglazed the brake pads just in case.

It didn't help and the noise continued to get louder and louder and more frequent, when at one point whilst in full lock the steering wheel began to vibrate. Again I took the car back, but this time they kept it over night. They tried to get the car to replicate the sound but could only hear something very faint and disregarded it. They de-glazed the brake pads again and sent me off..

The noises continued, but this time with something new. I could hear a clunking noise (near the front of the car) when I braked after reversing and sometimes braking to stop the car when going forwards. I took the car back for a third time, and they kept it in again. This time the technician said he would strip the front of the car (mainly the right-hand side), and make sure all the bolts where fitted properly and do some other checks (the technical terms flew straight over my head). When I went to pick up the car he told me that all the 66 yaris cars currently in the garage all made the same noises that my car is making. He then said the cause of the noise is the brake pads moving/lifting in the caliper in order to stabilise when the car is on a incline. He said there is no problem with the car, and if Toyota get enough complaints they will look to finding a solution and issue a recall.

Has anyone had a similar problem with their car? Or been told the same thing?

Also, has anyone rejected their car or know the process of doing so?

Last month I had a curtesy car, which happened to be a 2016 Yaris hybrid. I did notice some extra noises, compared to our 2013 one. When driving in a multi storey car park.

I had just got to the top of the ramp and was turning left, at first I did wonder if I had clipped the corner.

The rest of the time I never noticed anything unusual.
