2015 2.0 diesel rev limiter

Hi I recently bought a 2.0 Avensis with the BMW engine, I have now found that it will not rev past 4000 rpm, it's quite scary when overtaking and all power disappears before you expect it, not a gradual loss but just cuts in like rev limiter, is this normal on the BMW engine?.

It's going to the dealer for some work next Monday so I will see what they have to say but if anyone has this engine can you advise how yours is please?.

I don't know specifically about the BMW but there is no point running a diesel to 4,000 rpm. Toyota actually says that maximum power is at 4000rpm but max. torque is at 1750-2250rpm.

Does it do this in all gears? You haven't accidentally enabled the speed limiter have you?

Yes I understand that, I wouldn't normally rev this high it was a fast overtake needed and came as a surprise to suddenly hit the limit.

It still does it when stationary put you foot on the accelerator and it revs to 4000 and stops, no real problem I just need to know if this is correct 4000 is not a lot, and  I know from there on you are past the best anyway.

From info on a BMW forum it seems that these engines sense whether the car is in gear and if not then the rev limit is 4000rpm but should rev normally when being driven, I will have to thrash it again and see what happens.
