Dear all,

I've recently bought a 2004 corolla - engine specs above. The last couple of weeks have been exceptionally cold here in Portugal, with morning temps dipping bellow 5ºC. I've noticed that under very cold conditions the idling speed upon upon cold engine startup is fairly high, about 1400 RPM. Is this usual? I could not find anything in the manual.

Thanks!

Yes, that whats called the auto choke where it gets a richer mixture during cold weather, normal for here in the colder uk

Hi, so you mean that these engines will idle at such a high rpm when very cold?

If it revs high then slowly decreases to normal tickover in line with the temperature gauge rising to normal, then thats the way an auto choke works.

In summer when its warm you will hardly notice it, perhaps just for a minute or two.
