Keeping rear camera lens clean

After about five miles on the current wet, salt laden roads, the rear camera's virtually useless. I know, I can get out and give it a wipe, but that means it's about as useful as a chocolate tea-pot as I can have a look around while I'm doing it.

Anyone got any suggestions for keeping the lens clean?

Hi Bob

I know exactly what you mean and its annoying. I'm about to try this product and I'll let you know in a week or so as to how good it is.

http://www.highdefinitiondetail.co.uk/collections/soft99-fusso/products/soft-99-glaco-mirror-coat-zero-30ml

I've checked with the manufactures and they have confirmed that its fine to use on the protection glass on the camera.

Checked with manufactures and its fine to use on the glass face of the camera. Been using it for a couple of weeks now and haven't had to wipe the camera once, so it looks as its a good product.

Be careful not to get any on the paint work as it says it can damage the clear coat.

Why not wipe it with your finger when you walk round the car after parking.

That's the whole point. The camera should be able to assist parking. If you need to get out to clean the damn thing, then you can have a look around, rendering the camera unnecessary.

I tend to wipe a wet finger over mine every time I stop when thre roads are wet.

When mine was dirty its time for just cleaning the camera lens but in the meantime I just use the mirrors all 3 of them.

I too.

Then after I've cleaned the lens I check with the camera if I've parked correctly 😀

Obviously I don't mean get out and clean it clean it when you are reversing i mean clean it when you notice its getting dirty when you park the car and walk to your front door.

As i said in my other post -

I haven't noticed it being a big issue and find the aforementioned method does the job for me but guess it depends on whet roads you drive on.

As my BiL drove off in his Mercedes I noticed the Badge on the boot was half open.

It turned out it was the reversing camera otherwise hidden behind the Badge

Any, just out to polish mine.

I think it’s fair to say they are fair weather devices.  It’s always been a pain going back to my Mazdas of old but I always managed before that.  If you were really inventive you could tee off the rear wash wipe and mount a jet above.  Long pipe to a dash mounted squeezy bottle?   Home alone style arm with a rag on it.?  How about, glass mounted inside the rear screen where the wiper sweeps.  It’s a challenge for somebody.

Ha. Just this afternoon I saw a (probable) Merc backing out of a neighbours drive with the badge/latch at an angle. I wondered about it ... now I know 🙂

If you had said a VW troc you could probably tap into the water sloshing about in the hatch

Isn't that whisky?

Yes. It's Light Whisky for dieters 😁

I personally prefer the full fat version which is a bit darker in colour and has a much better flavour

Only possibly in the sense that it's whisky before it becomes whisky

After heavy rain we could have bottled tap water and sold it as the full leaded version.

It was quite a trick getting the children into a bath of brown water.
