Resetting the trip computers

I am picking up my new Prius on March 1st and would like some clarification of how the trip computers work with regard to resetting.

I have had cars with dual trip computers for many years now and know the difference between the A trip and B trip, but I have read people mentioning 'lifetime' trip or similar.  Is there a trip that cannot be reset and shows all details from day 1 of the cars life or is this just the B trip that people tend not to reset?

The reason I ask is that I am picking my car up from about 160 miles from home so I would like to start with fully reset trips.  I have read on page 123 of the online manual that if "set is pressed and held while this item is displayed, the information is reset.Does this mean that as long as I am on one of the settings of e.g. trip A and I press and hold set that it will reset all values for trip A (thats how my car works now) or do I have to do it for all values with in trip A?

Thank

It will reset all values for Trip A.

Similarly, for trip B.  During a "since start" you can reset all the figures for those too, if you hold the Set button will the Drive Monitor is showing "since start".

While ODO is displayed, it shows the mpg, %EV and average speed since the car was new, although the elapsed time becomes irrelevant after some weeks.  I reset my ODO figures before leaving the dealer when I collected the car from new, so it shows the figures ever since I took possession of the car.

If you wanted to, it appears you can reset the ODO figures too; some may wish to reset annually, or winter to summer maybe, but I've chosen not to reset my ODO figures at all.

That's just what I was after, so bascially before I drive off the forecourt I need to reset trip A & B, then press and hold Set while ODO is showing and that resets the since new values which will get rid of any factory, transport, PDI drives etc.

Just so I understand correctly, resetting the 'since new' values is different to resetting trip B, so there are kind of 3 trip computers - A, B, ODO?

Many thanks Pete

Yes, or 4 if you include the "since engine started" one (except the ODO doesn't reset the mileage!)

I reset the "B" trip every time  fill up with petrol, and it gives me mpg, average speed and %EV for the tankful.

Also, don't trust the "miles remaining" for the first few fillups!

When I picked mine up it said there was about 860 miles worth - I didn't believe that even then!  The range estimate fell very rapidly when the tank got nearly empty.

Mine took 6 fills and over 3,000 miles before it started being remotely realistic, but indicated remaining miles nearly always fall off more rapidly for the last 100 miles or so.  When it says 50, you'd often be lucky to get 30.

My calculations suggest I'd normally be able to do another 20-40 miles when it gets to zero, but I don't risk it.

Thanks for the info. When I last had an ICE car I used to fill up when I am just below 1/4 of a tank.

Funny in this much colder winter I am only displaying just over 50 miles of range in my Zoe after I have fully charged...... I would have filled up in ICE car long before then

{groan} and I did just that accidentally yesterday when I arrived at the dealer for my first service and meant to reset my Trip A but held the button while on ODO - so now I've lost my since new mpg and %EV data.

I recall it was showing 68.5 mpg and 46% EV, so it will be interesting to compare at the next service.

If I had designed the software that managed these things, for ODO (but not Trips A/B) I'd have displayed an "are you sure?" message before actually wiping it.

BTW: the "since delivery" ODO mpg had been mid 70s until late autumn, when colder weather and more very short journeys hammered it (so above 70 mpg even after adjusting for the 5% average optimism!).

My Gen 4 has been consistently about 10 mpg better than my Gen 3 was in similar circumstances.
