Check engine, VSC, TRC.

Hello everyone, I would like to ask you for advice about my Toyota avensis. I bought it last week, and was really exited, but now there's some problems starting about it. When I strart engine it sometimes doesn't start from first try, I have changed the fuel filter witch was the problem as I thought from the start but there's still this problem. And when it starts ( usually after some 15 mins of trying) it shows 3 lamps on panel - Check Engine, VSC and TRC OFF. So I would like to ask you how can I solve this, and have I bought a hidden defected car?

Check and clean the EGR unit (exhaust gas re-circulation). If you can't do it, get a garage to do it for you. It is common for diesel EGR to get blocked by carbon or soot. A clean of the EGR unit itself and the pipes, will help the engine get back to normal.
