Poor fuel consumption?

Re 2004 2.0 D4d

Ignoring the infamous optimistic trip computer (massively over stating! - 60mpg+)

For the past few tanks I have been getting sub 40mpg. I have not had the car that long to know its ins and outs but consider this to be a bit on the low side of expectations (was hoping for 45mpg+). This is on a mixed run and what I tend to get with the Leon and Superb diesel.

Since picking the car up a couple of months before Christmas it has had a full service (all filters) plus a new set of Goodyear efficient grip tyres. The EGR has been off and cleaned following some fun and games plus a bottle of BG244 through the system. It also runs on standard BP fuel plus Millers additive as do the other cars.

Are my expectations too high? Honest John's real world mpg suggest 49mpg

The car has done 130k plus had an easy life with the previous one owner.

Is there anything else to do or look at?

Main concerns are that there is something not quite right although I can accept the mpg for what it is coming from a Honda Accord petrol as the previous third car. This used to do about 28mpg on average.

Any little pointers would be appreciated (fearing leaky injectors though)

I'm driving a 06 D4D and on my last fill I got 40mpg. I was a little disappointed also however the majority of my driving was short hops plus the weather is quiet cold so I'm hoping for 45 plus on a long spin. I had a 03 octavia 1.9tdi which was a little bit better on the short spins but not by much.
