could someone please educate me on this?

what parts can i use, and what effect does it have.

is it plug and play, or is some modification needed.

is it worth the cost and effort?

are there some alternatives that are better

The engines are mainly different as the 1ZZ is a longer stroke. The both share the same bore.

A quick search found the following: http://www.japan-parts.eu/toyota/gr/2001/corolla-sed-wg/zze121l-aepnk/4_151350_029_/tool-engine-fuel and

http://www.japan-parts.eu/toyota/gr/2001/corolla-sed-wg/zze122l-aemnkv/4_151350_016_/tool-engine-fuel

All the results were just Google search "Toyota 1ZZ vs 3ZZ" showing results with some showing this forum. It is not just the components but the ECU. It all depends wether you are doing parts of the engine, or a complete engine swap.
