Is the new bulb dimmer than the other side?

There may not be too much difference in price when compared to say Amazon. The Optibright are 50% brighter than standard halogen, whereas the Nightbreaker Unlimited are 110% brighter.

As halogen bulbs deteriorate with age the new bulb may be a bit brighter than the older bulb, depending whether and when the older bulb itself may have been replaced.

Just bought a 2013 Auris HSD. Picking it up on Tuesday. Test drove it during the day so I could't see what the headlights were like. Are they really as poor as some people say. With how gloomy it can get here and how dark many country lanes are, you'd think having decent headlights would be of paramount importance to drivers in the UK.

Our old Ford Focus had different bulbs for high and low beam (excuse the foreign terminology - I am Canadian). Is it the same thing for the Auris hybrid? I keep hearing about Osram Nightbreakers. Is this what Auris drivers tend towards purchasing?

The second generation Auris (December 2012 onwards) has moved to HIR2 bulbs, which are supposedly around 75% brighter than standard halogen bulbs. The bulbs are single filament, and an actuator redirects the beam for when main  beam (high beam) is needed. Some owners have had problems with the headlights, some haven't.

If you do have an issue with the headlights, there is a Toyota Service Bulletin, which has been highlighted in another thread on this forum, where the headlights can be replaced with updated versions.

Osram Nightbreakers, the latest versions of which are 110% brighter than standard halogen, and as with other upgrade bulbs aren't available in the HIR2 fitment (9012), but some have fitted HB4's (9006) which require one of the plastic lugs to be trimmed.

Welcome DrNBC

How u find the Hybrid?

I definitely will get some night breakers in next few days

I guess it also depends on the individual

See poll on this thread and a few have said it's ok (not a scientific poll of course!)

But u should try driving it at nights and then decide for yourself ...

Thanks! I haven't picked it up yet. Looks like it will be Tuesday. Fortunately we didn't have to go too far, only 5 miles. I've read all about your epic search and road trip. Sounded fun!

I was close to going to Southampton to look at a Prius but this one popped up locally and we really liked it.

This is the type of bulb I had on my 1989 GMC Sierra 1/2 ton. Back then most pickups had one bulb for high and low, usually 60/50. You could get "off road" bulbs of 100/80, which, needless to say, were not street legal.

I'll take extra notice of the quality of the light and will report back next week.

Or just certain cars/model?

If the dealer's bulb cost £13, I would say that they're standard halogen.

Well

Though I have ordered Osram Night Breakers 110% brighter from eBay at £25 (TWICE the price for H7s :ohmy:

Anyone know why the H11 more expensive???:angry:

I still wanted some more powerful lights, so just ordered some Ring xenon 130% brighter at same price:laugh:

Will see how all 3 sets fare:

1. Standard Toyota ones

2. Osram Night Breakers 110

3. Ring xenon 130...

Is this the GE Megalight 130 from Halfords, Frosty?

Too expensive for me even with a BOGOF

Phew, glad those Ring bulbs not HIDS

Legal them I assume?

Will see which one's last longer (night breakers or xenon's)...
