Bursting Off The Lights In An Auto!?

So anyway most of us are going to Santapod on Saturday and i was wondering if its possible to keep an auto stationary using the left foot on the brake while revving it up with the right foot?

This came up at the Reading meet when i was talking to Bibbs and a mate from the GT4OC.

Anyway we think its going to be possible to do this but my dad recons im gonna knacker my auto box doing this.

Anyone out there that knows a definitive yes or no on this?

Cheers

should be fine in short bursts, will put extra pressure on the clutch and engine, but your not doing it everyday so should be ok....

That sounds like an autobox stall test, hard on the brake and foot on the floor, its how they check the function of something in the gearbox. Something my brother-in-law used to do to show off in an old auto 2.8 granada was give the engine about 3000revs then drop it into drive, used to launch with loads of wheel spin but I dont imagine its recommended practice

I think Leeky was thinking more around 7000rpm :D

:D Yeah kinda.

If its gonna kill my autobox then i'll just wait for the green light then floor it but it would be nice to build up the revs before doing so

Anyway less than 24hrs to go until i do this so i better get my act together.
