Hello all. I have just bought a 2004 Toyota avensis d4d .

I have a question about the clutch .It's very short as in when changing gear you only have to press it down about two inches to change gear just seems very short . There was no service history with the car but I got it very cheap from a auction. The clutch seems good it's not slipping at anytime

If anyone could give me some advice It would be greatly appreciated

Usually signifies a worn clutch.  Try pulling away in 4th or 5th gear with the handbrake on, use revs as needed.  If you can let the clutch all the way out, or almost all the way, then your clutch is knacked.

I just tried it there . The engine shut off straight away like it should . Any other suggestions

Still sounds like a well worn clutch to me.

I had an Accord before the Avensis as the third car and that was very high too. If it was me I would just keep going with it as it is until it eventually starts to go.

The Honda I had before was still going with no slipping for a number of years before I got rid. It would eventually go but when who knows. Clutch's are a bit of a mystery as no two are the same as highlighted so often with mapping.

Not had the Avensis long and had the clutch replaced a few months ago. It wasn't slipping but it was ridiculously tough to change gear (springs on the pressure plate). Now much better but still cost £750 on the cheap with LUK clutch and DMF (incl fitting).

I'm not sure if yours is cable operated but if it is, the cable could be stretched.

I'm not sure myself actually definitely something I need to look into. Is that an expensive fix would you know

I wouldn't think so, but get it checked out before you dive in.  It might not be the cable.

If it's cable operated it won't have one

Well had a very expensive day turns out it was the clutch so replaced it and it's going good now. Had to change the back break discs and pads and two drop links and got it serviced so that's me potless. Thanks for all the replies
