"Corroded rear springs" advisory

Hi

Mot passed ok but with the above advisory. Not had a good look under the car myself yet but should I need to replace them, a couple of questions.

I see there is a variety of makes and prices of springs. Are there any to either to avoid or to go for?

Can the job be done without any special tools?

Cheers

Don

Haynes suggest no special tools - not even a spring compressor.

Just jack up rear of car, remove wheel,, jack under trailing arm, unscrew lower shock absorber nut, take SA off mounting, lower jack under trailing arm and remove spring...

With care.

I would question whether it's worth spending the money on a 2001 car.. springs can work when rusty for years.

Thanks for the reply.

Well I had a quick look this morning and they don't look too bad. I get the impression that  they like to add a few advisories now and again to keep everyone happy.

Although it's a 2001 car it stiil goes well and with the light use it gets it should give good service for another year or two. I would be quite happy to spend the money if I thought it was really necessary.

Cheers

Don

You can always spray the rear springs with a rust preventative fluid like Waxoil or Dinitrol
