What is that noise?!?

110k miles, idle at 700/800 rpm....
Why does my baby sound like a tractor?!?!

No it's not a diesel :)

Engine light been on for a while but it never used to make such a racket! :/

Toyota garage has said that it's either the vvt sensor or something else that could be at fault (30k ago) - didn't change it at the time as they quoted me nearly 1/2k to change it.

The car had been running fine up until now.. 
Could it really be down to the faulty vvt solenoid/sensor? 

Any ideas?

its too high a noise for piston slap, more valve noise but you say it runs ok  so im stumped too  but it does sound like something is loose in the engine
