intermittent rear fog light issue Toyota Avensis 2006 hatchback

Hi All,

First-timer here, hoping for your collective wisdom. :)

Having an issue with the rear fog light on my 56-plate Toyota Avensis T3X hatchback.

As most of you will I know the rear fog light is turned on by means of flicking a band on the indicator stalk.

If I start the car cold, this is fine. I flick the switch all the way to the rear fog light and the light comes on, as does the corresponding dashboard light.

However, if the car is warmed up, flicking the switch does nothing.  (The rear fog dashboard light does not light up, nor does the lamp itself.)

No issues with the front fog lights.

Has anyone had any experience with this issue with the Avensis?  Not sure if it has to do directly with the car being warm or whether that is just coincidence.

Any advice very much appreciated!  Seeing as the car is 10+ years old and 160 000+ miles, I'm not sure I want to spend hundreds of pounds on electrics trouble. :(  So if there is anyone out there who could shed some light with some idea of the issue or what the costs involved would be would be very useful.

Many thanks,

Carrie

Hi Carrie to track down your fault you will need a multi meter to test the stalk unit then work your way back a wiring diagram will save you time , if your not good with electrical fault finding then a mobile car electrian  will proberly give you your answer in about 30 mins whether it's your steering column stalk or a wiring fault to or at the fuse box a connection getting warm and opening up a soldered joint can give this issue as well . Good luck with your issue  would love to know the out come .
