2001 Avensis Verso will not unlock with remote

Hi I have owned my Toyota Avensis Verso from new and it is 16 years old.

I am experiencing an intermittent problem with unlocking my car.

Both batteries have been changed in the 2 remotes by Toyota dealer

Upon returning to the car it will not unlock with either remote and using any key sets off the alarm and still the car will not unlock.

After an hour or two the issue disappears and unlocks with remote as normal.

Issue then does not occur for a month or so

'Dealer does not have a solution....Help

Have you got the owners handbook/manual? Lock for remote central locking, changing key fob batteries, and check to see if a section "re-syncing remote keys" is included. Also look for the dome fuse. There is an issue (which I had) with Mk1 T22 Avensis dome fuse metal property degrades without actually blowing. There is more resistance so the current is not getting through for the central locking function. Change that fuse to see if that is the cause.

These are the simplest solutions before it gets more complicated.

Hi I had a similar problem with my old Ford Focus hard to open car with remote changed the battery's and had the fobs tested at ford ,all ok it took me hours of searching the Internet and the answer was disconnect the cars Battery for 5 mins which resets the central locking alarm control box . After I could unlock the thing from up the road . I had to do this three times in five years . Not sure if this will help but maybe worth a quick try .

Before this fix I had to manually unlock the door and start the car to stop the alarm going off.

Just checked with my wife and the Toyota dealer resynchronised both keys when the problem occurred the time before last - I was away at the time.
