Windscreen crack on inside only

Just discovered a 6" crack towards the top drivers side but doesn't extend right through. Does this happen often? Any ideas as to the cause?

With the 19 new cars we've had, never had a crack on the inside. Any damage has always been external.

Could have been someone putting pressure on the inside of the screen.

Think as it is a crack, it will need to be replaced anyway.

You can crack a windscreen by turning on the heater at full blast on an exceptionally cold morning. That's one reason why so many aircon systems won't do recirculate when you're aiming the airflow at the windscreen. But it really should have taken even that - something's got stressed there along the line where the glass is glued into the edge of the frame. Will need replacing, sadly.

Had the screen replaced today via the insurance. Was told he'd seen nothing like it and thought it must be a manufacturing fault. Having had a heart attack a few weeks ago I couldn't be bothered chasing Toyota for the £60 excess I paid. Life's too short!!
