Blanking off EGR

Hi

I have decided to blank off my EGR valve to improve performance mpg etc as mine is utter cr8p mpg

I bought an universal plate off eBay and it came with 2 plates, i assume as its universal theyd always send 2! I fitted 1 plate just above the egr and the connecting pipe. This worked for around 23 miles then the engine management light came on and the trip said check engine and check VSC and goes into limp home mode. I can understand the engine check coming on but not the VSC. I will get the codes on Thursday as I am borrowing a reader.

Hopefully you can see in the picture below where the plate is. Or do I need to blank off the other side or disconnect the sensor?

Is there a way to stop this error coming up when blanking off the EGR? Ive read lots of people do it and they cant drive around with these constant errors and limp home mode

I also reset the ECU at the same time too by taking out fuse 17 and 20, i think these were the numbers. Maybe this caused it too?

Thank You

I just assumed it was the Auris sections and everything Auris related goes in here? I pulled the fuses out as someone in the forum mentioned this as the easiest way. Ill check the live data section

On a #180 2.2 engine the EGR flow is monitored if you block it the car will spot it and trigger a fault code the reason EML, VSC & TRC come on is they are all interconnected so when the EML triggers and the car goes into limp mode the car goes into a basic engine running function the VSC & TRC ECU's see this and do the same as the Engine ECU is no longer giving them the info they require.

The EGR flow is monitored because your car has a DPNR and a blocked EGR will increase the amount of soot entering the filter which will clog or even block completely so the ECU spots the blockage of the EGR flow and triggers the EML and limp mode to protect itself.

Hi, I was to ld to post this here as you guys are more techy!

I have decided to blank off my EGR valve to improve performance mpg etc as mine is utter cr8p mpg, 33mpg to be exact!!!

I bought an universal plate off eBay and it came with 2 plates, i assume as its universal theyd always send 2! I fitted 1 plate just above the egr and the connecting pipe. Hopefully you can see in the picture below where the plate is. Or do I need to blank off the other side or have i done it incorrectly or disconnect the sensor?

Is there a way to stop this error coming up when blanking off the EGR? Ive read lots of people do it and they cant drive around with these constant errors and limp home mode

It has also came to my attention that blancing off the EGR will increase the usage of the DPF, which i never thought of. Is it worthwhile blanking off the EGR for the excess DPF usage? I drive 25 miles a day round trip to and from work, 5 mins rural driving, 10 mins motorway and 10 city. I own an Auris 180 2.2 D4D

Thank You

Threads merged as there is little point in having two threads on the same subject and responses in two places.
