Toyota yaris mk2 gearbox issues

Hello there, i have a problem regarding my Yaris that i am currently experiencing. The problem is with the gearbox sometimes refusing to go into gear 1 and 2 and it making a noise a squeal/creak as if the gearbox is scraping alongside the gearbox wall, i don't think it's because of the gator. If you could possibly advise what could be the possible issue, I'm thinking it might be the linkages in the gearbox but I'm not sure. Any help will be appreciated.

Now then, so I have my sprint Yaris mk1 1.3SR  going into a gearbox specialist soon, as I have a crunch going down from 3rd to 2nd so hey told me first to put a better gear box oil in and try that which I have and it still does it. Next we are taking the box out and we are 99% sure its the synchro and the cost for this is going to be £350 to £400. My Yaris has the same engine and gearbox that's in the mk2 1.3sr.

If you cant find anything online just ask around to find a local specialist and demonstrate it to them,  they will know almost what it will be. This is what I've done so far.

Hope this helps a little.

Thank you for the reply, the gearbox does seem dry therefore that may be the reason for the sound when shifting from 1st to 2nd. Also, while speaking to my mechanic just a little while ago he seems it may the be linkages which may need to be replaced.

Now then, if your guy thinks its the linkage then change that first but for added peace of mind change the box oil anyway as it will be no doubt be the original oil from the factory if you have not already changed it.

Hope you get is sorted.
