Hi everyone, I have just become the proud owner of a 1997 corolla.

Its a bit tatty looking on the outside but it has only done 36,000 odd miles!

It is a 5dr liftback 1.6 ls in white with an auto box.

I haven't been able to totally varify the mileage is correct for sure, but there are no give away signs that it isnt genuine. .. even if it isn't I only paid 450 for it with almost 10 months MOT.

I had a 1992 corolla about 10 years ago and it was a good car, it was s 1.6 that could keep up with my mates 2.0 pug. The only thing that let it down was the handling, but great car non the less.

I always avoided buying a frog eye corolla in the past because they are kinda ugly, but now that I'm getting older I don't care any more...its sort of grown on me a bit actually.

Anyway here is a pic of my new runaround which I pickup from the garage on Monday.

5dr liftback 1.6 auto (can't remember what trim)

Hello Neil. Good luck with the Corolla. I have a 93 and 94, both 1.6 (the previous series). The upside of the slightly boat like handling of mine is great ride quality (compared with many modern cars). Even the Camry doesn't ride as well.

Thanks for the welcome guys.

Yes i definitely prefer a more supple ride these days.  I have been driving around in a Clio which was my courtesy car for the last 3 weeks ... it drove well and cornered well, but a pot hole could leave you with a powdered spine! ... and the steering was too light.

I did love my old 92 though, there was just something very real about driving it and you didn't need a laptop to adjust something. ..screwdriver and a socket set could put anything right lol.

I can't wait to get the wee froggy face out for a proper spin.  I sm sure it will be better to drive than my last car which was a mk 3 Astra diesel. ..the suspension on that thing was too boat like, I'm pretty sure I scuffed the wing mirrors while cornering.
