When to replace gearbox oil?

Just bought a 2006 Yaris with 40k miles on the clock.

It's clearly been sitting for a lot of it's life and some areas need attention i.e. corroded exhaust and corroded discs / pads.

The gearbox feels a bit stiff and I wondered whether it was sensible to get the gearbox oil changed. Is there any recommendations on when this should be done i.e. every 10 years / 50k miles or something?

Thanks!

Me again

Wow, that's low. What model is yours by the way, ie a T2, T3.

My 06 has corrosion under body including the exhaust but although mechanics say it's bit more than usual, key components are fine. The exhaust box which connects to the main pipe with a rubber seal is leaking, but not enough to fail mot, so may be worth checking on yours.

My wheels were rusted too under the hub cap aswell as discs/pad which I replaced, the brakes weren't good as they should be and bought some original Yaris alloys too.

Back drum brakes have really bad surface rust, a mechanic said they would need replacing as pads were worn and was charging me £70 but declined. Ordered for £50 and its as simple as replacing a wheel except it didn't need replacing just yet and couldn't get a refund, will replace in the future. Won't be going back to that garage again.

Mine was a one lady owner but didn't do a brilliant job looking after the car, bought with 82k and on about 84k clutch started slipping so had to replace. Guess she was riding the clutch as should have lasted way past 100k. Anyway I asked the clutch specialist to replace gearbox oil but said it was fine, no need to replace oil.

My gears get harder to get into 1st and reverse gear sometimes however its not down to the oil as all gears would be affected. I can either crunch into gear with obviously isn't good, instead back into neutral, foot off/on clutch, put into another gear and back into 1st.

Sorry to bump this old thread. Usually, I do it every 4 to 5 years or 60,000 miles max. Oil loses its properties with age, even if not used as much.
