2010 Yaris Oil Leaak - Possible OCR ? HELP HELP

New to the forum but have heard lots of positive feedback on how helpful this site can be including its members.  So I am reaching out !!!:laugh::laugh:

We own a 2010 Yaris 1.3 6 Speed.  I have noticed a small oil leak (see pic).  Can anyone advise if this could be a failed OCR.  I go in every few days and there is a mist of oil as you can see in the picture.  Car drives OK and no dash lights. Is there a o ring seal on these or any maintenance required ?  I have replaced the oil filler cap rubber but that wasn't the issue.

Any help appreciated.

I had exactly the same problem with both cam solenoid ports. It was severe that it wasn't sealing properly despite changing the cam solenoid o-ring seals. In the end I replaced the valve / rocker cover. Knowing now what the problem was, I could have easily repaired the old valve cover.

In your case, try replacing the cam solenoid o-ring seal first which is easy to do. Remove the electrical connector and 10mm bolt and then pull solenoid straight out. Place it on clean surface since you don't want dirt getting in to it. Replace the o-ring seal and smear/coat with engine oil. Align before and gently push straight in, do not twist or wiggle it in as you will damage the o-ring seal.

If it is still leaking then you will need to seal the gap between the metal port and valve port. See my last pictures...

Thankyou TAuris -

I will look to replace the seal first - im guessing the camshaft valve is ok and i dont need to replace that as its near on £100 vs just the seal which will be a few quid?

If that doesnt work - when you say seal the gap between the meta port and valve port - what did you use to seal the gap?

Regards

Last time I checked, the valve cover was £230 +vat! If you pm your vin number I will know exact part numbers etc. It will be ok to drive but better to fix it than keep cleaning the valve cover and associated area. You can use any RTV (room temperature vulcanised) silicone sealant, cheap ones cure longer (24 hrs+) and expensive ones from 30 mins - 2 hours. When I have time I will post a picture to show you what I mean.

TAuris apologies for the delay I have today got round to having the O RING replaced on the Taris - fingers crossed it fixes the issue ! The mechanic who replaced the O RING did say however the old O RING was tight and didnt look worn ! I will keep you posted im hoping its not the rocke cover - if it is will need your advice on how to repair rather than replace.  FINGERS CROSSED !!!
