Power steering noise constantly

Hi guys, so here goes!

I changed lower ball joints to day- no big deal there. The problem is that I noticed a drip of oil on the ground and opened the bonnet. I then noticed that the power steering reservoir was completely full with excess fluid after dripping out. Question 1,,,,,How could this have happened as I didn't top up the fluid levels?

To add more info my Battery had died while doing the joints as my lights were left on. I got a jump start and all was good but when I went to drive out of my yard I had a whinging noise while turning the steering wheel. This was not there before I started the job. The fluid level is puzzling me????

Any ideas what the issue here is??????

Perhaps an airlock somehow?  Turn the steering full lock one way to full lock the opposite way a few times with the engine off and see if anything changes.

Thanks Alan, car now appears fine after I done like you said and charged the Battery. The steering wheel is now not straight. I'm baffled??
