Electric handbrake

Hi All

I own a 2009 Toyota avensis TR, it has an electronic handbrake, I have noticed that the handbrake doesn't come on automatically sometimes when I turn off the car. Should this handbrake come on automatically when I turn off the car or is there something I'm doing wrong.

On your age of Avensis, no - you must set it manually. This behaviour was changed later in production (facelift?) after a no. of incidents with rollaways where Toyota claimed the EPB had not been set properly.

It is a facelift model T27, it does come on occasionally, I just wondering is it a fault that it is only happening occasionally.

If it is a 2009 it can't be a facelift - the facelift T27 is 2012MY>.

Perhaps the OP means the new shape (i.e. the T27) rather than the facelift. I'm pretty sure the handbrake on my 59 plate T27 didn't have the automatically apply function, but my 12 plate facelift did.
