Got a 56 reg Aygo

Recently I am starting to have trouble getting it started. When I am trying to start it all lights go on as expected but the engine won't turn over. I simply hear a little click sound and all the lights go out. I can bump start it and also starting it via a powerpack works.

The Battery and the starter motor have been replaced. What else could it be? Could it be the altenator?

Thanks

Alternator?

Make sure all connections to the Battery are clean and not loose at all. Check the earth lead to the body is clean and tight then check  the earth lead from the engine to the body and the wires on the solenoid. If any of these are loose or dirty there will be a resistance to the flow of power causing a voltage drop which the solenoid will grab what power is there for its own use The alternator only operates when the engine is running to replace what is taken out of the Battery by the starter and is not involved in the turning over or starting of the engine

Sounds like something draining the Battery e.g. a bad earth, a light being left on etc.

The obvious question is why was the starter motor changed in the first place? It has nothing to do with charging the Battery as someone as already stated. The clicking noise is only because the Battery is flat.

l would suggest that the alternator output is checked, if that is low change it. If not clean ALL earth connections.

Forgot to say welcome to the club Stephen. First thing I would suggest is having what is sometimes called a drop test on the Battery. This is not actually what is done with the Battery. A test meter simulates how much power is drawn from it when the starter is engaged and how the Battery is coping with that drain.this is a standard test to see how it copes with this I would suggest if you can to visit a outlet that specialises in batteries. This is usually done for free, even "new" ones may be faulty. You say that with a jumper it will start. As the jump leads are clamped on the outside of the terminal connectors this could point to a resistance build up between your connectors and the battery. Worth checking I think . This could also be caused by loose nuts on the solenoid. Let us know how you go on with this as it may help others in the future.
