I had my Aygo serviced on Friday and one of the items on the service schedule was “replace transmitter battery” i.e. keyless key fob.

Imagine my joy when Monday night I couldn’t get into the car as the fob was dead. Luckily I remembered that after opening the door using the metal key you can start the keyless by holding the fob next to the start button. This will activate the ignition via an inductive loop even of the Battery is dead.

On inspection of the fob the dealer fitted the wrong Battery a CR 2016 rather than a CR 2032.  They are both the same diameter but the CR 2016 is half the thickness of a CR 2032. So the Battery must have been barely making contact – frankly I’m surprised it worked at all!

So take care when replacing the battery.

P.S the dealer asked for feedback on my “ customer experience” – and to be fair they put their hand up and admitted their  mistake, and brought it to the attention of technician involved -  so hopefully they will take more care in future.

They commented it was an easy mistake as similar fobs use different batteries. Possibly why Toyota stamps the battery type on the fob!!!

cr 2016 = 20mm diameter x 1.6mm thick

cr 2032 = 20mm diameter x 3.2mm thick

i hope they didnt charge you for the Battery in the end

Easy solution, just stack two of em in there, it'll last twice as long!!!

Replacing the Battery is part of a service. Main Dealers take the biscuit, and then get it wrong. If it wasn't for your knowledge you would have been stranded.

wouldn't last very long as the voltage would of doubled to 6v from 3v

and possibly damaged the remote :-(
