I have the same problem, I was told there is a piece of the original plastic stuck at the bottom. therefore stopping it from retracting.

To sort it out you will have to take out the arial mechanism and do some searching :shutit:

YEP, just had the same problem with my gen 5 aerial, the mast is controlled by a nylon cord with teeth, mine had snapped and therefore would only go by 3" but wouldn't retract. The snapped part was still in the body of the motor.

Kelvyn pointed me to this very useful site http://www.imoc.co.uk/. See my old thread about 2 weeks ago.

I bought a new mast from Mr T (part no T86337-32200, £31.27 incl VAT) and followed the very detailed instructions and hey presto my areial was like new! It only took 15 mins after I got the thing from the car.

The last time I bought a FULL new aerial for my Gen 4 it cost £225.00! this is a lot cheaper!

P.S. this is a great site for advice!

;) Thanks for ze advice people!

It most definately is the mast that is at fault  ,so it looks like a trip to Mr T on Monday.

I tried a 2nd hand gen 4 aerial from a scrapper which was totally different ,so that was a no-go!

mr.T is the common name for your local toyota dealership , and yes all celicas have electric aerials , specially a gen 6 for sure.

the guy brought the part up on the computer and checked the price list on the computer and i seen every thing he type in . it came up £127 plus some pence cant remember . will it make such a big difference with an jap import. seems strange that mostly the rest of the car can fit uk parts but maybe this part is not such a straight change out.
