idling problem toyota avensis 2.0 petrol

I have just recently done an engine overhaul, the car starts and revs high, but as soon as i engage gear the car switches off.

please help

Basically something has not been put back correctly. You need to go over engine with who ever did the work, checking all the sensors, vacuum pipes and throttle body connections. Can I assume your engine is 1AZ direct injection engine, plus are you in South Africa (base on the the currency)?.

If the engine is The 2 litre VVTi, the cams need to be working correctly and the timing correct. This needs an experienced mechanic to look at the engine in person.

i seriously suspecting that i have not connected the air pipes correctly

yes it is a 1AZ engine, and  thnx for the advise.
