Hello all.

I am planing to fit some mirror puddle lights to my 2010 Avensis, the eagle eye type.

The power, I am going to tap it from the interior dome light, so it will light and fade as the dome light.

The problem is, how to pass the wire from the mirror to the interior?

There is a harness going to the mirror - folding motor, but that is a fully closed unit, and i cant figure out the way.

Please help.

Thanks

Henrique

  • 2 weeks later...

Nobody wants puddle lights ... so i had to dig it a bit further.

These are the kind of leds i'm using.

After taking out the door card you get this:

Now you need to unplug and pull out the triangular shape plastic.

Now you remove the three washers.

Take the mirror out, and polish the paint

Before taking the mirror out, pull it backwards, so you can take out the two plastic pieces easily.

The next step is to take out the grey insulation tape and the rubber seal.

After the rubber seal is out, two screws need to came out.

Now you have to pry open the two plastic pieces.

Be very careful of the interior claws, not being broken.

After taking out the cover plastic pieces, you end up with this.

Two screws out...

Now the mirror.

With your fingers gently pull it out.

Be careful with the heater wires on top, and the motor wires/plug down.

These can be taken out with a small screw driver.

The back cover can came out a this time too, just pry it carefully. Together with 2 screws and the plug for the indicator.

IMG_022.thumb.jpg.6529099bdd13bc4e708f368f554e603a.jpg

Now the folding mirror motor is free. Two more screws to remove.

IMG_024.thumb.jpg.022b4d11fe487a91242b2bf01839ddd8.jpg

This is what it looks like

IMG_025.thumb.jpg.5358ee27141940ec85ef45202889ec30.jpg

Now chose the eagle eye led location, and pass the led wire through.

IMG_031.thumb.jpg.23cfc02cb4aa1ad75eeb503c0a21ab74.jpg

Then i realized it was too big, it might get in the way of the mirror motor, so i cut it a bit.

Now go back to the folding mirror motor unit, and pass the wire were the white sponge is. Pull the cable with the white sponge out and insert the led wire, and then pull at the other end. The led wire will go along.

To be more tidy, i run insulation tape, and started to assemble it all back

Since i had some computer wires, i decided to use one with a plug already.

IMG_20170408_230752.thumb.jpg.22bf179d4653569b643a25bb1b40092c.jpg

I decided to get the power from the front interior lights.

IMG_20170408_230906.thumb.jpg.519c4881f69c7c178fae35763bc6609f.jpg

Now remove the screws and pull out the green piece

IMG_20170408_231021.thumb.jpg.34a2faaf35b95119b2c756f630066e2c.jpg

There are some tabs, pry it with a small screwdriver.

IMG_20170408_231112.thumb.jpg.714759e1e27e1e369fa69167eaaaec95.jpg

Turn it over and find the connector.

IMG_20170408_231207.thumb.jpg.20e336eb5b4ea89b58374bf0ddd94310.jpg

Since we are using leds with polarity, we need to find out how to plug our computer lead.

IMG_20170408_231251.thumb.jpg.30d3b7b0f3a81add39ef4fbf9b442767.jpg

In my case it goes like this.

IMG_20170408_231357.thumb.jpg.0ab63ed9af00af34f048fad63ad90ece.jpg

Now, reassemble it all back.

This is a photo of the end product
