toyota corolla handbrake adjustment

hi guys

I am new to this forum and believe this forum would help me a lot in DIY on my 2004 corolla and once more thanks again for allowing me to join this forum

i would like to adjust my handbrake at the back as my handbrake lever pulls up way to much

can i please have a DIY on adjusting this, i believe you adjust them at the back of the brake discs

If they're the same as the Avensis of similar age (small handbrake shoes inside a drum) then you can adjust them through the hole of a removed wheel stud.  They adjust in the same way as most drum brakes, ie turn the adjuster using a suitable tool until you can't spin the wheel then back it off a bit until it spins freely.

yes its the one with the 2 brake shoes inside the drum, so I dont adjust anything inside besides at the wheels

What  Allan says it correct, however even when correctly adjusted, you can still end up with too many clicks on the handbrake before it holds properly.

 Likely the cable will have  stretched, so you have to remove the centre console, typically just two bolts and two screws and you will find the cable length adjuster down besides the handbrake lever.

You have to remove the console because the adjusting nut  has a lock nut that needs releasing first.
