Oil Needed For 03 Yaris

I'm planning to do an oil change on my 2003 1.0L Yaris and I'm wondering if it's better to put in 10W-40 or 5W-30?

Euro Car Parts recommended that I used 10W-40 so I purchased some Semi Synthetic Triple QX 10W-40. Coming to do the job I remembered that normally I use 5W-30 but is 10W-40 still good to use?

Thanks very much! :)

It's not the viscosity of the oil you need to worry about (I doubt if your engine will mind 10W-40 instead of 5W-30) so much as the specification.

What does your handbook advise?

Cheers for replying, the handbook advises 5W-30 or 10W-30 to specification API SJ or SL. The oil that I have bought is to specification API SL/CF so it should be good?

That should be fine for a 14-year-old car, but in future you may like to keep to the original specification, unless engine wear indicates something else may be preferable.

For anyone potentially looking at this thread in the future, it's been 8 weeks since the oil change and car is running great. Hasn't drunk any oil and runs as it did before :)
